What is Vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 is predominantly found in animal products. Lack of Vitamin B12 leads to many Vitamin B12 Deficiency Symptoms that are discussed in this post. Many of these conditions may not be reversible.

A 1998 article mentioned the following symptoms of Vitamin B12 in elderly patients:

Plant Sources of Vitamin B12

Can you get Vitamin B12 from plants? According to a 1988 Article published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, most plant sources of Vitamin B12 are inactive to humans, and that the compounds found there are not bioavailable to the human body.

A separate article in the New England Journal of Medicine states that most edible blue-algae foods that are highly recommended (except for Nori) do not contain Vitamin B12 that is beneficial and active for human consumption.

Vitamin B12 and Microwave Heating

A 1998 Study found that heating or reheating your food with a microwave converts the Vitamin B12 in your foods into an inactive compound.

Treatment of Vitamin B12 Deficiency

Injected Vitamin B12

These are high does of Vitamin B that are injected.

High Dose Oral

High mg of Vitamin B pills can be found in most pharmacies, and is usually taken with a meal.
