Cleanse Your Energy Channels

In Eastern traditions, the subtle body comprises of a multitude of subtle pathways that are known as nadis. These subtle channels are not physically located in your body but it is believed that vital energy circulates throughout the body via these channels.

There are twenty-four nadis within our psychic body and it is essential to cleanse them regularly so that energy radiates throughout your being. The nadis can be cleansed both physically and mentally.

Two easy ways to physically cleanse the nadis:

1) Kapalabhati – This breathing technique detoxifies and re-energizes the subtle body. Sit in an upright posture, breathe in until your lungs are about half way filled, and then forcefully exhale all the air. Let the lungs refill naturally, and forcefully exhale. Do three cycles of eight.

2) Neti cleansing to remove blockages and impurities from the nasal passages. You will need a special kit which can be easily sourced from Amazon.

Mental Cleansing of the nadis:

This breathing technique involves alternate nostril breathing in a very specific ratio: 1 count of inhalation, 4 counts of holding your breath, and 2 counts of exhalation. It is usually performed with a mantra as follows:

1) Sit with spine upright.

2) Use right thumb to block the right nostril, inhale through the left nostril for one count while chanting the mantra yam once.

3) Retain the breath while chanting yam four times.

4) Release the breath while repeating yam twice.

5) Use the ring finger and little finger of the right hand to block the left nostril, and repeat steps 1 through 4 on the right side, replacing the mantra with ram.

You may increase the duration as long as the ratio remains unchanged. For example, you may work your up to 2:8:4, 4:16:8, or 6:24:12. In the last ratio, you will inhale for a count of six, hold the breath for a count of 24, and exhale for a count of twelve.
