What you choose to eat when you are fasting totally depends on your health goals, however, Intermittent Fasting (IF) has been shown to work with ANY diet. It has been used in conjunction with a “regular” diet, vegan, carnivore, keto etc. and the subjects have reported weight loss, as well as better overall health markers.
Intermittent Fasting is most commonly combined with a low carb diet such as Keto as the foods eaten on a healthy Low Carb diet are more nutrient dense, high quality foods that will keep you fuller longer, thus promoting a longer, more comfortable fasting experience.
As previously mentioned in Day 1, I continued eating healthy foods that includes all food groups, as well as wheat based sourdough bread for my deliciously satisfying avocado toast.
Day 2 came with a highly bloated stomach, as well an uncomfortable “bloat” all day. Once again, I was experiencing extreme emotional eating. Thoughts of not eating throughout the day lead me to over eat within the eight hour eating window.
I was able to fit all three meals, plus snacking and desserts within my eating window. I observed myself adding extra to each meal serving “in preparation” of my upcoming fast.
Intellectually, I made a plan to eat my “normal” serving size for each meal the following day. I also hated the black coffee, which lead to research options for delicious creamy coffees during intermittent fasting that still maintains a fasted state. I decided on adding Bulletproof Coffee the following day.
Bulletproof Coffee was created by Dave Asprey. His original recipe comprised of blending together freshly brewed Bulletproof Coffee (which does not contain many of the traditional toxicities in popular brands of coffee), MCT Oil, and Grass Fed Butter. There are many variations of Bulletproof Coffee recipes available online, but the lure of hot creamy delicious coffee has me really looking forward to day three!
It was interesting. There were absolutely no hunger pangs around breakfast time, or thinking about food when outside of my eight hour eating window. I did, however, continue to fit all of meals, snacks, and desserts within the allotted eating window. This is most likely responsible for all the gas and bloating I felt throughout the day and night.
Changes I do plan on incorporating into Day 3 includes removal of all snacks during my eight hour window, as well as adding delicious Bulletproof Coffee.
