Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is often used in conjunction with other ancient healing techniques such as herbal medicine. You may read more on ailments that can be relieved by Acupuncture here.
In our modern world, traditional Chinese medicine has proliferated and is thriving in many cities as people turn to alternative healing to provide non-invasive cures. There are discounts available online to help you with the cost of your visits.
The facility that I chose is located in the midst of a major city. I was greeted by the front desk attendant upon walking into the Office. Behind the front desk were walls of prepackaged herbal teas with Chinese writings. On the desk itself were bamboo plants, and essential oil diffusers. My ears tuned into the background music which sounded like traditional Chinese meditation music.
I was then escorted to my treatment room at which point I needed to take my shoes off prior to entering. It was spacious, with an acupuncture table in the middle and traditional Chinese curtains, and Chinese music playing in the background. There was also a “medical area” with a sink and cupboards, as well the cups for my cupping treatment laid out on the counter.
My Acupuncturist had over 20 years of experience. He had worked all over the world before deciding to settle down in my City. He asked me to relate everything about my body that I feel may not be working the way it should. After a lengthy discussion, he surmised that I had some thyroid and endocrine system issues.
My first acupuncture treatment consisted of a combination of acupuncture needles and cupping to treat blockages that are leading to my thyroid and endocrine issues.
I laid face down on the treatment table, and he inserted the acupuncture needles into the space behind my neck, my mid and lower back, lower arm, and feet. He also added the cupping around my mid and lower back. I was then instructed to relax for about 25-30 minutes while listening to the meditative music.
The cups and needles were then removed, and replaced by a different set in and around the same area. I relaxed for another 25-30 minutes, at which time all needles and cups were completely removed.
The needles felt like mosquito bites when there were inserted. There was no discomfort or pain.
My Acupuncturist then re-examined a few “problematic” areas and even I can feel that there was instant relief in the level of inflammation that had accumulated over the years.
I was impressed by the inflammation instantly subsiding. My Acupuncturist instructed me to drink lots of water and to “take things slowly” for the rest of the day. By that evening I started feeling soreness in the points where the needles were inserted, and I felt very tired.
The next day all of the soreness was gone, and I felt re-energized and renewed. The areas with visible inflammation remained pain free and did not get swollen again.
I plan on continuing the treatments for a total of six sessions, and then re-evaluate where I am in my healing. It is truly amazing how an ancient technique can drastically relieve symptoms without harsh medications, nor adverse side effects.
If you are still on the fence, I urge you to try Acupuncture!
